Far from just a workout for your core, this piece of apparatus helps create internal pressure to elongate the spine, joints and muscles which then leads to greater flexibility, strength, stamina and a more balanced posture. This type of physical and mental workout is even more relevant now due to lifestyle factors such as long working days, being seated for long periods of time, and mental health aspects, to name just a few.
The reformer accommodates a full range of motion, which is great for increasing flexibility while building strength. The pushing and pulling with the arms and legs against the resistance of the springs, carriage and body weight makes this a unique strength-building full-body workout that’s different from the regular Pilates exercises performed on the mat.
One of the best things about the reformer is its versatility. Exercises can be done lying down, sitting, standing, pulling the straps, pushing the footbar, perched on the footbar, perched on the shoulder blocks, with additional equipment, upside down, sideways and all kinds of variations, the list is endless! It seems to invite the length you want to create in the body, and it trains the body to sustain that length.
Pilates is for anybody and everybody’s body - and the reformer doesn’t discriminate; it’s there to help us all. From rehab clients that needs the support of the springs to enhance their recovery, to desk workers that sit too much and pro athletes. Reformer Pilates is complementary to all lifestyles and bodies.
